Member Spotlight: Dr. David Day, from Day Chiropractic
It’s not every day you meet a renowned bluegrass musician, chiropractor, Midway business owner and advocate rolled into one. Whether you need an alignment or neck work, want to catch some live music or just want to talk about what it’s like serving the Midway Business Association (MBA) for 14 years, look no further than Dr. David A. Day. The former MBA Board President is still very active in the Association, running his practice, Day Chiropractic (at 3758 SE 122nd Avenue), and promoting Midway.
Tell us about yourself. What makes your business unique? We have been a family chiropractic practice serving our community for 32 years. In addition to the expected treatment of car accidents, work or sports injuries, we also help people with chronic health issues like headaches, asthma, stress, sciatica numbness in hands or feet, and other problems. We approach the nerve system with careful consideration and a holistic perspective. We can help reshape the spine much like an orthodontist who works to restore tooth alignment. Restoring your spinal alignment can make wonderful changes in your health, and if you are struggling with just about any health problem, chiropractic may be able to help. Our sophisticated testing measures your muscle tension, autonomic nerve system temperature and heart rate variability. We also have a state-of-the-art digital x-ray machine that we can use to look very carefully at your bone structure alignment.
What do you love about working in the Midway Business District? Why did you join the Business Association? I was one of the founding members of the Midway Business Association in 2005. With all the growth that this area of SE Portland was experiencing, I wanted to help bring the business owners together to encourage each person to embrace the growth and work to passionately serve our community. I love practicing in this area; it is so convenient for patients who live in East Portland, or even in Vancouver, WA with the proximity to the I-205 bridge. We have a spacious parking lot, and there is a bus stop right in front of our office on the #73 line. I live in Happy Valley, and it is so convenient to come to Midway from that area of town. We have an open feel in this area of Portland, and Powell Butte is just behind our clinic.
What is your proudest achievement as a Board member, and what are you most excited about for the future? I’m proud of helping develop Midway as a viable and thriving business district. By staying actively involved with MBA, it will give me the opportunity to influence its growth.
When you’re not working, what’s your favorite place to hang out in Midway? I love breakfast at Tic Tok (112th/Division), shop at Grocery Outlet (122nd/Division) and bank at Wells Fargo (120th/Division). I also do office repairs with help from Ace Hardware (122nd/Powell). To relax, I like hiking Powell Butte.
If Midway had its own soundtrack, what would be its theme song? “Moving on Up.” Another option, since I play bluegrass, is a song I wrote — “What Were You Thinking?” by The Day Brothers.
Many thanks to Dr. Day for his contributions to the Midway Business Association and the countless patients and bluegrass music lovers he’s served over the years.
